Drug UsesDilantin is used for treating certain types of seizures and preventing and treating seizures during surgery of the nervous system. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How TakenUse Dilantin as directed by your doctor.
- Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
- Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body.
- Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule.
Dilantin is an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing abnormal nerve impulses in the brain that cause seizures.
Missed DoseIf you miss a dose of Dilantin, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
StorageStore Dilantin at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Protect from freezing. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Dilantin out of the reach of children and away from pets.
